“Workshops are a way inside the instructor’s head”.

I find it rewarding to work with students and people willing to learn new techniques and crafts.

These classes are set up for groups rather than individuals.

Using such mundane fluids as coffee or tea, commercial and art papers, students will discover how papers react to the “stress of distress”. Students are encouraged to “play” and experiment with various processes. This is a messy process needing lots of space, rags, freedom and sense of adventure.

Foundational Letters and Variations

This understated hand has a basic charm and structure, lending itself to easy reading and running copy. The first day concentrates on the alphabet and some variations. The second day (if chosen) incudes color and putting together a layout.

Workshop size: 10 minimum - 15 maximum

Blackletter Basics and Variations

Blackletter is instantly recognizable because of its tight “picket fence” styling & dark texture, hence the name “Textura” or Gothic and Blackletter. The basic alphabet will be explored and practiced the first day with variations, color and layout the second.

These letters can be used in producing unique manuscripts or leap into the contemporary stylings of modern letters from an ancient form.
